Siddhi Ma told us that Maharaj-ji Neem Karoli Baba loved to hear the Sundarakand, the ‘beautiful’ chapter from the Ramacharitmanasa (Tulsi Das’ Ramayana). It is here that Hanuman finds Sita, Lanka is burned, intentions are set for crossing the ocean…we hear about Hanuman - the breath of Ram and see a window into love, faith, surrender, and overcoming obstacles.
Siddhi Ma gave us copies of the Sundarakand and encouraged us to read it as a regular practice. Often at Maharaj-ji’s temples, the Sundarakand is recited; even sung with accompanying musicians and everyone attends and enjoys the nectar of the expression of this uplifting devotional lila. Some of you might have heard recordings of K.K. Sah singing the Sundarakand or the singers from Hanumangarh in Nainital.
While none of us is an expert in Sundarakand recitation, a group of us will come together to take turns reading both the Hindi transliteration and the English translation and through this Practice enter this devotional space, while being together online on zoom. You are invited to follow-along at your homes with the pdf below, or even just listen.
We will be reading from this transliteration and translation which is available as a pdf at this link:
